In partnership with The Richmond Planet Foundation, alongside the descendants of John Mitchell Jr., TNT@FT will commission and begin development of a new play capturing the birth of the Richmond Planet newspaper, and the life and times of its “fighting editor”, John Mitchell Jr.
pop up premieres
be the creative team’s test audience.
Pop-up Premieres serve as the next step for a play following a reading and script development, in which the creative team can explore ideas on their feet. After two weeks of rehearsal, select scenes are memorized and staged, and production support is added.
Join us and be a vital test audience for a creative team’s pre-production process.
First Drafts & Bagels
Be the sounding board for new plays.
First drafts and bagels
Come out to Firehouse Theatre for mimosas and bagels and participate in the creative process of making a new play.
First Drafts and Bagels brings together playwrights, directors, performers, and you to hear, then talk about, new plays.
Next First Drafts and Bagels:
The Bell Lyre
by K Jenkins
In the not-so-distant future, on a floodplain nearby, a family struggles to fit a lifetime of memories into seven boxes. In the world of The Bell Lyre, musical instruments are constructed from broken clocks and wallboards, pies are baked from forgotten apples, and shields are donned to catch bullets. This magical realism play is a family drama that speaks to environmental degradation, mass shootings, lost love, digital barrenness, and Alzheimer’s miracles.
