Word Up! Poetry Slam ‘Ingredience’ Course

You’ve seen and heard amazing Poetry Slams on stage and screen; this is your chance to awaken the Spoken Word artist in you. This 5-week program, taught by Grand Slam winner and National Slam contender Rasul Elder (a/k/a Rasul the Nobody), starts January 8 and includes a series of hands-on workshops and lectures by Rasul and nationally known guest artists. On February 9, the course culminates in a team slam competition, with all workshop teams competing for a place in the ’07 National Poetry Slam in Austin, TX!
Cost:
$230: Entire course. Includes all lectures, workshops, source books, and membership in PSI (governing body of the National Poetry Slam).
Note: Participants must be available Mondays from 6-8 p.m., and one other weekday from 4-6 p.m.
$40: Five lectures only.
$10: Per lecture.
10 New Scholarships to be awarded at course end to most deserving students! Candidates must be eager to learn, show a strong interest in poetry, have shown improvement in various areas, and must interview explaining why a scholarship should be awarded to them. Each scholarship is worth $230, and can be used for further education in poetry, as well as other educational purposes. E-mail direct for information on scholarship applications.
