Reader’s Theatre: ‘The Exonerated’ by Jessica Blank & Erik Jensen

What would it feel like to be wrongly convicted of a crime and sent to death row? To spend years of your life in prison? What happens to those who are eventually exonerated? Playwrights Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen traveled the country during the summer of 2000, talking to “the exonerated” - those proven innocent who were once found guilty. Much of the dialogue in the play comes directly from their transcripts and interviews.

A student production directed by VCU theatre major Courtney Dearing and featuring Richmond-area students who were touched by the power of this play, The Exonerated is sure to resonate.

Reader’s Theatre is minimal theater in support of literature and reading, with minimal stage sets, no full costumes, and scripts used openly in performances.

General Admission. Suggested donation: $5. Students free.
