March 13th Reader’s Theatre: ‘Quills’ by Doug Wright

posted on February 21, 2007

Nothing can stop the Marquis de Sade, locked away in the Charenton lunatic asylum because of his licentious habits and scandalous literary works. Deprived of his pen, paper and ink, De Sade continues to write against all odds, and resorts to more desperate stratagems (bearing dreadful and peculiar results).

Pulitzer-Prize winning playwright Doug Wright wields his own lacerating pen to cackle fiendishly at the self-righteous gatekeepers of morality. By turns witty, ironic, shocking and lyrical, Quills is a highly theatrical exploration of love and art and the responsibility of self-expression.  Mr. Wright also adapted his Obie-award winning script for the 2000 film starring Geoffrey Rush, Kate Winslett, and Michael Caine. Reader’s Theatre is proud to present Quills, by Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife). Directed by Roy Proctor.

Show time: Tuesday, March 13th, 7:30 p.m. (Doors open at 7)
Tickets: $5 at the door only.
This show is not recommended for anyone under the age of 17.

Reader’s Theatre is a series of dramatic, staged readings of critically acclaimed works.
