posted on February 1, 2010
ROSMY presents a first-of-its-kind film festival in Metro Richmond, the Reel Pride Richmond Film Festival.
The two-day event will feature five award-winning independent films that celebrate the diversity of the LGBT community.
The festival will be held Feb. 5 and 6 at the Firehouse Theatre, 1609 West Broad Street. Friday night features a cocktail reception and screening of the film Patrick 1.5, the story of a gay couple that tries to adopt a baby and ends up with a 15-year old homophobic boy. Saturday is a day-long event highlighted by the free screening of the triple award-winning documentary Out in the Silence. Called “a stunning documentary” by the Philadelphia Inquirer, the filmmaker chronicles his engagement to another man and the firestorm it ignites in his Pennsylvania hometown. This screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Joe Wilson.
“After 19 years of support for the region’s gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth, ROSMY is proud to bring Richmond its first LGBT film festival, Reel Pride Richmond,” said John Dougherty, executive director of ROSMY. “We hope that this inaugural event will mark the beginning of a tradition that celebrates our community in film for years to come.”
The festival opens Friday, Feb. at 7 p.m. with a reception and screening. It continues Saturday, Feb. 6, beginning at 11 a.m. and ending with the final film at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7 per film. Special rate ticket packages are available as well. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit www.reelpriderichmond.org. Space is limited.
